AI Ethics & Policy Insights - Personal Update
A personal note from Paige. TL;DR: I’m taking a break and will be back with my newsletter the week of July 10th.
Taking some time off to get MARRIED!
Hi everyone!
First let me start by saying how thankful I am that each of you have subscribed to this little newsletter. The goal as always been to bring simplified AI ethics and policy news to people in a way that’s easy to engage with, and I’m proud to say that for 25 issues, I’ve been able to do this - and I’m excited to continue to publish the newsletter. With that said, I am going to pause the publication of the newsletter until the week of July 10th, 2024.
What’s going on?
As many of you may know, in August of 2023 I got engaged in Oxford. My partner (Kurt) and I are so excited to get married in June. As you can imagine, it’s a busy time! In addition to wedding planning and the joyful festivities that accompany this time (like my bridal shower, bachelor/bachelorette parties, etc.) I also started a new role as an AI Product Marketing Manager at GitHub in March, and that has meant a lot of early mornings and late nights while I get up to speed on GitHub Copilot, all that we’ve offered, and all that is to come.
Why do you need to pause the newsletter?
Did you know that my newsletter is written by me, largely without the help of AI? I do all of my own research, fact finding and writing, and when I do use AI, it is for graphics. It takes many hours every week to track down the info, find multiple sources, cross-check the info, draft the snippets, write the deep dive, film the videos, etc. It’s a lot of work, and because my content is geared toward making the conversation around AI ethics and policy accessible to everyone, I do not request payment for or pay-gate this newsletter or associated materials. I also have not found brand partnerships that feel like they are a good fit for the content or beneficial for consumers of the content, so I don’t have sponsors, either. All of this to say, I do this work on the side and pay for it all out of my own pocket because I’m passionate about the mission of democratizing the AI dialogue and getting more voices engaged.
Mostly, I am in the midst of a beautiful few months, and I want to ensure that I am able to be fully present, which means I need to temporarily pause something. My AI ethics newsletter and my video content creation are those things.
Are you sure you’re coming back?
Yes! I’ll be back the week of July 10th!
I’ve LOVED being the architect of this newsletter and content. I’m really sad to tuck it away for the next two months, but I have a lot of amazing ideas for when I come back. As with any risk (like taking time off) I have to believe that the opportunities that are meant for me will find me upon my return, and that I’ll be able to bring a fresh perspective to the work I’m doing. I have a lot of amazing ideas already.
Thank you so much!
Mostly, I want you to know how thankful I’ve been for your support, and I want you to know that I’m committed to this work and this newsletter moving forward. I’d love if it you would stick around as a subscriber to see what’s coming in July. If you have feedback, questions or concerns, feel free to reach out here on Substack, or email me at thepaigelord@gmail.com.
Have an excellent few months, and I’ll “see” you soon!
Paige
